Follow these tips to get a high score:

IELTS General Training Writing: Master Strategy (Task 1 & Task 2)

IELTS Writing is assessed by four criteria:

Your goal is to systematically satisfy all four β€” not to sound β€œcreative”.

Time Management

Task Time Word Count Marks
Task 1 (Letter) 20 minutes β‰₯150 words 33%
Task 2 (Essay) 40 minutes β‰₯250 words 67%

Always finish Task 2, even if Task 1 is weaker.


UNIVERSAL 7-STEP PROCESS (Use for BOTH Tasks)

Step 1: Identify the Task Type (30 seconds)

Write keywords only, not sentences:

TASK 1 β€” GENERAL TRAINING (LETTERS)

Step 1: Identify Letter Type

Step 2: Correct Structure (ALL letters)

Greeting

Opening Paragraph (Purpose)

Body Paragraphs (Answer Bullet Points)

Each bullet = one paragraph or section

Use clear sequencing:
